Betsy DeVos was born on 8th January 1958.She is a businesswoman, politician and the current Secretary of Education in the United States. She is an active member of the Republican Party where she is well recognized for her passion for children and school. Mrs. DeVos is a board member of Foundation for Excellence and was also an advocate of the charter school system in Detroit.


In addition to that, Betsy has been seen to be leading the efforts to attain high-class education for all students regardless of their background. It is for this reason that she was seen to be the best candidate for the Secretary of Education position.


Her Personal Life

She is a spouse of Dick DeVos who is the Amway former CEO. She is also the daughter in law to Richard DeVos who is a renowned billionaire in the world and the founder of Amway. Betsy has a brother, a former Navy SEAL officer called Erik Prince who is the Chief Executive officer of Blackwater USA, a private military contractor. They are both the children of the founder of Prince Corporation, Edgar Prince. The DeVos family has been doing well in matters business and this is evident in the mentioning of their family among the top 100 rich families in the world.

Betsy and Dick DeVos have been couples for almost 30 years where they have been blessed with four children, two sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law and five grandchildren.


Early Life of Betsy DeVos

Before she was known as Betsy DeVos, Betsy was known as Elisabeth Prince. She was however born from parents of Dutch origin. She started school at Holland Christian School in Holland, Michigan. Betsy, later on, went to Calvin College, Michigan where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business economics. While at the Institution, Betsy got involved in school politics where she was seen to be quite a following. This is where she started her politics and later on, it became a thing she enjoyed doing.


Politics and Financing Politics

During the George Bush re-election campaign, Betsy DeVos raised over $100,000 by herself and later on she was the main host of a fundraiser at her home in which George Bush attended. She worked for the government as the finance chairperson for the Republican Senatorial Committee. The DeVos family was some of the major shareholders in the funding of politicians. It was approximated that the family gave over $17 million to candidates vying political seats.


Her Philanthropical Work

Mrs. Betsy DeVos was a mentor to the children in Grand Rapids Public Schools. Betsy and her husband donated almost 12 million dollars which benefitted education and art institutions that she was highly supportive of. Through the giving by Mrs. Betsy, so many needy children have been able to get access to proper education can attend proper private schools and get good quality education.
