JD.com Opens Up The Indonesian Islands To Drone Delivery

JD.com, which is also known as Jingdong Mall, is China’s largest retailer recently announced that it has accomplished in what it is said to be Indonesia’s first government approve drone flight. Experts state that the flight is an important milestone for the Southeast Asia region as many government regulations still prevent these types of delivery to be made. See This Article to learn more.

For the historic flight, many members of the Indonesian government were present including Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation and other leaders in aviation. Representatives of Jingdong Mall where also in attendance to oversee the historic first flight. The announcement of the flight was first presented to the public at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting.

The JD.com drone first took off from Jagabita Village on January 9, 2019, and made its way to the children of MIS Nurul Falah Leles Elementary School. The package included various school donation such as backpacks, clothing and other daily essentials. The first contents to be delivered being that of charity is no surprise as JD.com has had a long history in being heavily involved in philanthropy. This culture of philanthropy is often seen within their own home country of China as Jingdong uses their complex logistics systems to deliver aid to the more rural areas of China during natural disasters.

Although the flight is a first for JD.com, the company has had a long history of success in the country of Indonesia with its junior partner JD.ID. In 2016 alone, JD.com would go on to sell over one million SKU’s and serve an astonishing 20 million customers.

The logistics of the companies span across most of the island of the country, which is why drone delivery and its first flight was so crucial to the strengthen of their current logistic systems. In addition, the opportunity of becoming an economic powerhouse in the Southeast Asian region is what is presented to Indonesia if they choose to invest and deregulate more the concept of drone delivery.
